    How do we breathe normally?

Air contains oxygen, which we need to keep us alive. Our airway starts at our nostrils or mouth, goes down the back of our throat to our windpipe which then leads down to our lungs in our chest. When we breathe in, our chest muscles and diaphragm move making our chest bigger, so air is drawn in through the airway into our lungs - where we absorb the oxygen we need from the air. When we breathe out, our chest muscles and diaphragm relax, making the chest and lungs get smaller again, and so the air from the lungs is squeezed out. We are then ready to take the next breath in.
